12 records fall in 147th PSL national swim championships in Dipolog

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Records continued to fall as 12 new marks were registered in the 147th Philippine Swimming League (PSL) National Championships Sunday at the Dipolog City Sports Complex in Olingan, Dipolog City.

West Manila Christian School standout Aishel Cid Evangelista was unstoppable in the boys’ 8-year category, nailing two new records in the 200m freestyle (2:39.00) and 50m breaststroke (45.82) events.

Overall, Evangelista has already notched four new records counting the 50m backstroke, (38.12) and 50m freestyle (33.51) marks he established on the opening day last Saturday.

Masville Elementary School-Parañaque’s Marc Bryan Dula also sizzled with another record-breaking feat in the boys’ 11-year division – this time in the 50m butterfly as he displayed an impressive 30.03-second showing.

Dula, the reigning Male Swimmer of the Year, earlier broke the 50m backstroke record with a time of 32.85 in the tournament supported by Dipolog Aqua Warriors coaches Ted Quijano and Cora Quijano.

“We are so overwhelmed with the results we are getting. A lot of records were established in this edition. Breaking records is not a walk in the park. These kids are training hard to achieve excellence in swimming and we want these kids to set an example to other young swimmers,” said PSL president Susan Papa.

Also submitting new marks were Mindanao bets Kiara Acierto (girls’ 8-year 200m freestyle, 3:01.88), Jie Angela Talosig (girls’ 12-year 400m freestyle, 4:50.11), John Alexander Talosig (boys’ 14-year 400m freestyle, 4:24.50) and Cyrryl Vallar (boys’ 15-over 400m freestyle, 4:31.13).

Bose twins Phency Joyce and Phelicity Joi likewise broke records in the girls’ 15-over 50m butterfly (32.26) and girls’ 15-over 50m breaststroke (37.75), respectively, as well as Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh (girls’ 12-year 50m butterfly, 29.53), Christian Leyno (boys’ 14-yer 50m butterfly, 26.78) and Nicole Bullecer (girls’ 15-over 400m freestyle, 4:49.19).
