UST jins stay unscathed; Warriors halt Maroons
MANILA, Philippines — University of Santo Tomas’ men’s and women’s teams stayed perfect as the UAAP taekwondo tournament reached the halfway mark yesterday at the Blue Eagle Gym.
The Growling Tigers were actually tied with University of the Philippines at 2-0 after Day 1 of action Wednesday, but the Fighting Maroons bowed to the Red Warriors, 3-4, leaving UST as the only undefeated team.
The Tigresses extended their unbeaten run to three following a 4-3 conquest of La Salle.
National University joined UST on top at 3-0 as the reigning women’s champions overpowered Far Eastern University, 7-0.
UP tallied a 3-1 record in second place in the men’s division with a 4-3 squeaker over Ateneo. The back-to-back title-seeking Bulldogs beat the Red Warriors, 6-1, tying their victims in third place at 2-1.
After opening the season with back-to-back losses, the Lady Eagles jumped to third place at 2-2 after beating the Lady Tamaraws (7-0) and the Lady Warriors (4-3).
The Lady Maroons, last season’s third placers, are running fourth at 1-1.
Final day of action starts at 9 a.m. today.
