The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Racing Commission (Philracom) is donating P1,722,173.86 to the Senate Spouses Foundation, Dalampasigang Manila Bay Foundation, Press Photographers of the Philippines, Buhay Isang Awit Foundation and the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation  from its 11 charity races held Sunday at the Manila Jockey Club’s San Lazaro Park in Carmona, Cavite.

For having four charity races each, the Senate Spouses Foundation, represented by Senate President Sen. Tito Sotto’s daughter, actress Ciara Sotto, and the Dalampasigang Manila Bay Rotary Foundation, will be getting the bulk of the funds as each will be receiving P626,245.04.

The Senate Spouses Foundation got an additional P1 million from the race host Manila Jockey Club, with MJC deputy chief operating officer Atty. Peter Zagala making the symbolic turnover of the check donation.

The PPP, headed by its president Jonathan Jalbuna, the Buhay Isang Awit Foundation and the Mowelfund, will each receive P156,561.26.

“This is the Philracom’s humble contribution to the noble projects of these five foundations. We at the commission are delighted, knowing that our combined efforts to raise funds for their worthwhile programs will go a long way,” said Philracom chairman Andrew Sanchez.

Ms. Sotto, Jalbuna, Dalampasigang Manila Rotary Foundation’s Ramon Ilustre Jr., Rotary Club of Manila Bay’s Adrian Abrogena and Christine Pasia led the simple awards rites, also attended by chairman Sanchez, commissioners Bienvenido Niles Jr. and Victor Tantoco, executive director Andrew Rovie Buencamino, MJC racing manager Jose Ramon Magboo and his deputy J-Fel Cuevas.

The 11 charity races were all conducted in accordance with the Philracom’s Rating-Based Handicapping System, which is a result of the commission’s affiliation with the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities.

Winners were Electric Dreams (4th PPP Trophy Race),  Hidden Light (Dalampasigang Manila Bay Trophy Race), Lucky Saver (Buhay Isang Awit Foundation Charity Race), Silver Glow (Senate Spouses Foundation Trophy Race) and Watermania (Dalampasigang Manila Bay Charity Race).
