Arnis National Open under way in Bacolod

MANILA, Philippines — Action in the Eskrima sa Masskara Arnis National Open resumes today with aspirants for next year’s SEA Games leading the cast at the City Mall Mandalagan in Bacolod City.

Majority of participants are from Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Panay Island, Aklan, Roxas City, Capiz Province and Antique, according to Kalido Society co-founder Jay Denisa, who also organized the event with Arnis Philippines, Inc. (ARPI) president Raymond Velayo.

ARPI is the official national sports association (NSA) tasked by Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) to select qualified arnisadores for international competitions.

Athletes from Luzon and Mindanao are also vying in the event, held in conjunction with the Masskara festival celebrations, said tournament director Leo Uyanib.
