Mark Hosana, Claire Adorna reign in Sun Life Aquathlon

MANILA, Philippines — National triathletes Mark Hosana and Claire Adorna swept the male and female honors at  the second Sun Life Aquathlon held Sunday at the Vermosa Sports Hub.

The two elite triathletes, competing in the 25-29 age group, finished the standard distance 500-meter swim and the 5K run in under 30 minutes. The fleet-footed Hosana clocked 26 minutes, 26 seconds while SEA Games gold medalist Adorna breasted the tape in 29 minutes flat.

Other noteworthy S standard distance champions from over 400 participants were two 15-year-olds with autism – Angie Powell (first) and Peggy Geiser (third).

Sun Life GoWell ambassador Bubbles Paraiso topped 20 other women in the 30-34 age group, while 2017 Ironman Kona finisher Celma Hitalia ruled the women’s above-50 class. Age was no issue for Chicho Mantaring, who came in first in the 60-above category, besting more than 30 males younger than him.

The event also capped a year-long aquathlon series which included the Vermosa Aquathlon, Animo Aquathlon, Island Cove Aquathlon, and the Aquaman.

The overall 2018 aquathlon series champions were awarded their prizes after tally points accumulated from all five races.
