Zach David shines in Karting Super Series

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Zach David displayed his prodigious talent anew by overwhelming the opposition and scoring back-to-back victories in the Mini ROK class of the Petron ROK GP Karting Super Series at Clark International Speedway’s kart track in Pampanga recently.

The 10-year-old fourth grader from Keys School Manila ruled three of four qualifying heats around the new 13-turn 1.2-kilometer track before sweeping Rounds 5 and 6 of the Mini ROK class and ruling one of the two Formula Cadet Overall-Expert races.

He topped the 13-lap Round 5 with a time of 12 minutes and 4.255 seconds, a substantial 6.858 seconds clear of Round 4 winner Miguel Angeles and 12.464 ahead of William Calleja, with Seb Kawpeng finishing fourth and Francesca Loren Laconico fifth.

David came back in Sunday’s Round 6 by besting the field anew, clocking a quicker 12:02.189 but just pipping Jolo Suba by 0.593 of a second and Junho Kim by 2.417. Angeles and Kawpeng followed the trio home.

Jolo, the youngest of local karting’s fighting Suba brothers, prevented a David double in the Formula Cadet Overall-Expert class by nosing out the weekend’s biggest winner by 0.294 of a second and Angeles by 0.371 in Round 6 with a 9:47.981 clocking.

Melwin Tan, Bruce Vincent Baisa and Niel Jigi Tupas took fourth to sixth places while also finishing in that order in the top three of both rounds’ Formula Cadet Novice races.
