MANILA, Philippines – San Sebastian rode on the career performance of Allyn Bulanadi as it trounced Jose Rizal, 82-75, on Thursday to keep its flickering Final Four hopes alive in the 94th NCAA basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

The 6-2, 21-year-old Bulanadi exploded with 27 points, his best scoring effort in the NCAA to date, to help propel the Stags to their third straight win and fourth overall against nine defeats that also kept them in the Final Four race.

The lefty Davao City native uncorked 10 in the first quarter when SSC roared to a 23-9 lead, and it was also him who poured in eight in the final period when they fended off JRU’s spirited fightback.

“He was huge for us in this game,” SSC coach Egay Macaraya of Bulanadi, who leads the team in scoring with an average of 15.2 points.

Macaraya said they are still hoping against hope to get to the Final Four.

“We have a very slim chance but it’s still a chance so we might as well take it. But first, we have to sweep our remaining games,” he said.

The Bombers dropped to their 11th loss against two wins and out of the hunt.

Meanwhile, Jerry Codinera on Thursday resigned as Arellano U coach just midway through the season.

AU announced Junjie Ablan, who was the team’s first coach when it entered the league as a guest squad in 2009, will take over on the interim basis.

Under Codinera, the Chiefs went 52-31 (win-loss) in almost five years highlighted by a pair of finals appearances in Seasons 90 and 92.

But AU had a faulty start this season, going 4-7 that may have led to Codinera’s resignation.
