Frayna drops 2 rivals, moves to joint 10th
MANILA, Philippines — Woman Grandmaster Janelle Mae Frayna downed Adrian Domerfield of England and Woman FIDE Master Paula Alexandra Gitu of Moldova for joint 10th after four rounds of the Burgse Meesters in Burges, Belgium Monday night.
The twin victories hiked Frayna’s output to three points coming off a loss to sixth seed GM Wan Yunguo of China in the second round. She was playing Dutch International Master Lucas Van Foreest in the fifth round at press time.
GM Jayson Gonzales also rebounded from a third-round setback to third seed Matthew Turner of Scotland by trouncing FIDE-affiliated WIM Tsveta Galunova to join the Frayna-led pack.
IM John Marvin Miciano, meanwhile, settled for a draw with Thomas Villiers of England for two points.
