Clarkson 'terribly disappointed' over missing Asiad stint
MANILA, Philippines — A “disappointed” Jordan Clarkson took to social media Monday to express his sadness over the National Basketball Association’s decision not to clear the Cleveland Cavaliers guard for the Asian Games as a member of the Philippine national basketball team.
In a Facebook post addressed to his “Filipino Brothers and Sisters,” Clarkson vowed to support the team in their basketball campaign in Jakarta, Indonesia this week.
“I am terribly disappointed to say that I have not received the required consent to participate in the upcoming Asian Games with our National Team. Although I will not be there in person, I will be with my Gilas teammates in heart and spirit,” Clarkson wrote.
“Despite this, my desire and ambition to play with my countrymen in the future remains resolute and I am adamant that this dream will come true! PUSO!” he added.
The NBA on Sunday announced it is thumbing down Clarkson’s Asiad stint, saying the quadrennial meet is not included in its agreement with FIBA.
“The NBA’s agreement with FIBA stipulates that NBA players can participate in the Olympics, the FIBA World Cup, Continental Cup and associated qualifying tournaments,” the NBA said in an official statement released by NBA spokesman Tim Frank.
Team Philippines has instead tapped TNT KaTropa’s Don Trollano to replace Clarkson in the roster.
