MANILA, Philippines — The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas suggested on Thursday that the move behind sending a Rain or Shine-bolstered squad in the Asian Games was a “moral” one.

“I think from a moral standpoint, maybe after the incident, [better] i-pahinga muna natin ang mga players (involved),” president Al Panlilio told the press Thursday afternoon shortly after the PBA Board of Governors tackled the issues hovering the Asiad.

The sanctions handed out by FIBA on July 19 indicate that the suspensions on the 10 cagers and two coaches who figured in the July 2 incident applies only in the FIBA World Cup qualifying tournament.

Clarifications and appeals regarding the decision can only be accommodated by the Mies-based governing body until August 3.

A TNT-powered squad was originally planned to compete in the Asiad but four of its players are among the bunch slapped with varying bans.

The SBP and the Philippine Basketball Association formally decided on Thursday that they will be sending a squad composed of Elasto Painters as core, a couple of Gilas cadets, and hopefully, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Jordan Clarkson.

But Panlilio said they are still in the process of finalizing a 15-man lineup that will be submitted to the Indonesia Asian Games 2018 Organizing Committee and relayed to the Olympic Council of Asia for eligbility review.
