Ex-Azkals beef up Ceres Negros PFL bid
MANILA, Philippines — High-powered Ceres Negros FC got even more loaded as four current or former Azkals mainstays and an Australian striker jumped over to help them wrap up the Philippines Football League title and the AFC Cup’s Asean Zone crown.
From Global Cebu FC, Azkal Curt Dizon and veterans Paul Mulders and Jerry Barbaso transferred to their former team’s Visayas rival while Fil-German goalkeeper Roland Muller returns to the Negros fold after a seven-month sabbatical and Aussie Blake Powell came on board from the Central Coast Mariners in the A-League.
The five new signings joined an already star-studded crew at Ceres that includes local stars Stephan Schrock, Patrick Reichelt, Manny and Mike Ott, Martin Steuble, Kevin Ingreso, Jeffrey Christiaens, OJ Porteria, and Amani Aguinaldo and Spaniards Bienvenido Maranon, Super Herrera and Toni Doblas in the homestretch of the PFL and AFC Cup knockout stages.
The Busmen currently enjoy a 15-point lead against their closest rival Kaya FC Iloilo in the PFL standings and need two wins in the last five games to win the League play anew.
