Scorpions rout Engineers, wrest solo 3rd
MANILA, Philippines — Orlan Wamar came away with 31 points as Centro Escolar U thumped Marinerong Pilipino, 97-79, to seize solo third spot in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig yesterday.
Wamar dropped 14 of his output in the fourth quarter as the Scorpions kept their poise from a heated encounter early in the frame and pulled away for good for a 3-2 record.
“We’re in control. We just have to keep our minds into it. We stayed focused and I think the boys really responded well. I’m really proud with the way we played tonight,” said CEU coach Derrick Pumaren.
A battle for possession among the Scorpions’ Jordan Intic and Orlan Wamar and the Engineers’ Trevis Jackson with 7:58 to go in the fourth with CEU on top, 71-60, led to a fracas that meted technical fouls on Engineers coach Koy Banal and consultant Joel Banal and Scorpions mentor Pumaren for storming to the court and a flagrant foul 1 called on Marinero’s Jerson Prado.
