JPV Marikina XI stuns Ceres Negros

Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Fifth-running JPV Marikina hacked out a 2-0 shocker over pacesetting Ceres Negros FC to record only its fourth win in the Philippines Football League Saturday at Panaad Stadium in Bacolod.

The Marikina booters leaned on the second half strikes of J. Baguioro (58’) and Kennedy Uzoka (87’) to complete the reversal over the 10-man Busmen, who lost for only the second time this season.

JPV improved to 13 points but remained way off the table toppers led by Ceres, which maintained the pace at 35 points.

The Busmen, who were forced to play one man down after goalkeeper Michael Casas was sent off in the 32nd minute due intentional handball, still enjoy a nine-point upperhand against closest pursuer Kaya FC Iloilo (26).

The Iloilo booters regained the No. 2 spot after grinding out a 4-3 escape act over Davao Aguilas over at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Alfred Osei unleased a thunderbolt strike in stoppage time to lift Kaya to maximum points in the seven-goal thriller, in the process, leaving the Aguilas stuck at 23 points for No. 3.
