MANILA, Philippines — Fil-Am track stars Eric Cray and Trenten Beram are facing the possibility of being slapped with sanctions or outright expulsion from the Asian Games-bound Philippine team after failing to compete in the Korean Open last week.

Phl Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) president Philip Ella Juico said both athletes have not yet explained their no-shows in the Korean meet, one of the two tournaments for athletes set to compete in the Asian Games in Indonesia.

Cray and Beram, gold medalists in the SEA Games last year, were scheduled to compete in the men’s 4x100m relay team with Clinton Bautista and Anfernee Lopena with hopes of getting the time that would help qualify them to the Asiad.

A source said the PATAFA has yet to make a final decision as to the tracksters’ fate since its executive committee is still trying to find solution to the impasse.

“Nothing is final yet. The two (Cray and Beram) have an issue of non-compliance and were asked to explain,” said the source.
