MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Taekwondo Association will hold the 2018 PLDT Home Ultera/MVP Sports Foundation National Poomsae Championships on June 23-24 at the Rizal Memorial (basketball) coliseum.

No less than 1,500 athletes are expected to represent all regions and PTA chapters all over the country in the poomsae or forms competition which features attack and defense techniques against imaginary opponents.

Through poomsae, the mind and body can work together in striving for perfection of technique because a martial art practitioner develops breathing control, balance, coordination and concentration.

Entries in the two-day event will compete in five events –  individual, pair, team, free style and synchronized poomsae for colored and blackbelts.

Among the participating regions are ARMM, CAR, CARAGA and NCR while the chapters include Central Gymnasium, Powerflex, Ateneo, San Sebastian College, UP, San Beda College, La Salle Zobel, DLSU, Team Baguio, Pangasinan, Cebu, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, PNP and AFP.

Sponsors of the event include SMART Communications Inc., Milo, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee and Meralco.

Competition will start at 9 a.m.  Martial arts enthusiasts and sports buffs, especially children who are interested to learn the sport, are invited to watch.
