Ringside ticket in Pacquiao-Matthysse bout to cost $5,000

Abac Cordero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Tickets to Manny Pacquiao’s awaited ring return against Argentina’s Lucas Matthysse will go on sale starting tomorrow with the priciest seats going for $5,000 or roughly P260,000.

It’s not cheap to watch Pacquiao in action – up close.

According to MP Promotions, which is staging the fight together with Golden Boy Promotions, tickets to the 16,000-seat Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur will be on sale starting at 4 p.m. tomorrow.

It’s just over a month before the July 15 clash between Matthysse, the reigning WBA welterweight champion, and Pacquiao, who is coming off a one-year-layoff.

“There is already a mad dash for tickets,” said MP Promotions media officer Winchell Campos.

Tickets are priced from $5,000 down to $2,000, $1,000, $500, $350, $250 and $125. They will be sold online, through https://myticketasia.

Corporate box rooms are also available.

The 12-round clash at 147 pounds will mark the first big boxing event to be staged in Malaysia since Muhammad Ali defended his world heavyweight title against Joe Bugner in 1975.

“This is the first time in a long time that a fight is going to be in Malaysia – a fight of this magnitude since Muhammad Ali was there,” said Pacquiao’s personal adviser, Mike Koncz.

Top Rank will handle the TV broadcast outside of Asia.

Koncz said Pacquiao’s first fight since July 2 last year, when he lost a bitter decision to Jeff Horn in Brisbane, should lure fight fans to the Malaysian capital.

“You’re going to have people go to this event not for the fight but to be in the event,” he said.
