Lee, Nguyen retain belts; Folayang secures comeback win in ONE’s Singapore card
MANILA, Philippines — Angela Lee and Martin Nguyen extended their reign as ONE Championship’s Atomweight and Featherweight titlists, while Eduard Folayang returned to the win column after notching respective wins in the “Unstoppable Dreams” showpiece in Singapore on Friday night.
Lee mounted a resilient stand a familiar foe in Mei Yamaguchi in five long rounds that featured heavy blows and tactical grappling.
Nguyen, in the co-main event, outlasted Lee’s brother Christian via a split decision. The challenger thrived on the ground, negating the champion’s striking prowess, but that alone couldn’t draw most of the judges’ nod.“It's a huge night for me and my family. It’s not easy to do what we're doing inside the cage. Martial arts fans and their love for the sport are the reason why we're fighting,” Lee said shortly after her conquest.??
Meanwhile, Folayang, who was fighting for the first time since losing the Lightweight strap to Nguyen November, put his Russian assignment to a clinic en route to a unanimous decision win.
The Team Lakay skipper tapped on virtually every facet of his arsenal to outclass Kharun Atlangeriev in three rounds. The former notched his 19th win in 25 outings while ensuring his road back to relevance right on track.
Roel Rosauro, the other Filipino in the card, fell to Sunoto in the preliminaries. The Cebu City native had no answer for his Indonesian foe who overwhelmed him with his grappling expertise.
