The Chiefs repeat as NCAA top cheerleading squad

MANILA, Philippines — Arellano U Chiefsquad showed them who’s the boss as it repeated as champions in the 93rd NCAA Cheerleading Competition at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last night.

The Chiefsquad delivered cleaner, beautifully choreographed dance and difficult pyramids and stunts to lord it over the field anew with 234.5 points.

Multi-titled University of Perpetual Perpsquad settled for runner-up honors with 226 points, its bid stymied by uncompleted pyramids even as San Beda Red Corps took the bronze with its 193.5-point tally for its best-ever finish.

“This is the product of the team’s hard work and we dedicate this victory to the whole Arellano community and our school officials who have supported us through thick and thin,” said AU coach Lucky San Juan after steering the school to back-to-back and their third overall.

The Perpsquad fell short of its bid for a 10th overall diadem.

“That’s life, you win some, you lose some. I’m still proud of the whole team and we will come back strong next season,” said Perpetual Help coach Ruf Rosario.

The Bedans, for their part, landed in the podium for the first time ever, eclipsing their previous best of fourth in 2017.
