MANILA, Philippines — If he were to make the decision, Donnie “Ahas” Nietes, the longest reigning Filipino world champion, would move up to super flyweight for his next fight and take a shot at becoming a four-division world titlist.

And he believes he’s ready for a world title fight in a higher weight class without going through a tune-up bout.

A few days after successfully defending his IBF flyweight division title versus Juan Carlos Reveco of Argentina at the Forum in California, Nietes is now eyeing a fight with Nicaraguan Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez for the vacant WBO super flyweight throne.

Also being looked at is a fight with another elite fighter Juan Francisco Estrada of Mexico.

“World title fight na agad, kapag tune-up pa baka… (I’d rather figure in a world title bout right away. A tune-up might pose a problem),” said Nietes in a press conference at Restaurant 9501 in ABS-CBN ELJ Building celebrating his latest triumph.

“I want to go back and fight in front of the US crowd on HBO since they were really happy with the show we put up in our last fight,” added Nietes, a reigning champ for a decade and counting – a record among Filipino boxing champs.

Having been a champ at 105 pounds, 108, then at 112, Nietes feels he can still take on the best of them at 115.
