Lady Spikers aim for solo lead versus Maroons
MANILA, Philippines — Streaking defending champion La Salle guns for the solo lead in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament today when it faces off with upset-conscious University of the Philippines at the Filoil Flying V Center.
Showing fine form in a pair of emphatic disposals of rival Ateneo and first-round tormentor National U, the Lady Spikers (6-2) look to keep on going in the 2 p.m. duel with the Lady Maroons (3-5) and grab the No. 1 position for the first time.
Far Eastern (5-3), meanwhile, trains its sights on a bounce back win and solo third in the 4 p.m. match with struggling University of Santo Tomas (3-6).
After its shock loss to Adamson last Feb. 24, La Salle rebounded with a bang and dispatched the Lady Eagles in four, 25-20, 25-17, 24-26, 25-20, to finish the first round at 5-2. A week later, the vengeful Lady Spikers stamped their class on the Lady Bulldogs, 27-25, 27-25, 27-16, to catch up with their victims at the top.
