MANILA, Philippines — San Miguel Beer’s Marcio Lassiter lived up to his tag once again, leading his team in a gritty comeback in overtime to beat Barangay Ginebra, 104-102, to go 2-0 in their PBA Philippine Cup semifinals series Sunday.
Trailing by as many as 15, Lassiter did most of the heavy lifting in the second half. Reinforcing June Mar Fajardo, the streaky shooter caught fire in the fourth with 10 points — essentially becoming the spearhead of the Beermen's offense.
He went on to score San Miguel's last six points — including a put-back off a Fajardo miss at 3.2 left in the extra period that iced the game.
"Sabi ko nga tsamba dahil instinct na ni Marcio 'yun, just like what happened in the game against Kia," head coach Leo Austria said of his ward's play in overtime. "Si Marcio talaga ang kukuha ng bola. He executed [the pick-and-roll] well. Si June Mar na-miss niya ang lay-up but the presence of mind ni Marcio is always there."
"Na-put back niya. That's why I say it is tsamba," Austria explained. "But tsamba man o ano, tatanggapin ko ng maluwag sa kalooban dahil a win is a win."
