Petron targets No. 6 vs Foton
MANILA, Philippines — Powerhouse Petron tries to stretch its unbeaten run to six as it takes on a familiar rival in Foton even as Cocolife and Generika-Ayala tangle in the Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the Sta. Rosa Sports Center in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
The Blaze Spikers have trampled their first five rivals in convincing fashions, including a four-set romp over reigning champion F2 Logistics last week, making them the favorites over the Tornadoes in their 4 p.m. encounter.
Although they stood too far behind the runaway leader with a 2-2 card, the Tornadoes have vowed to stop the Blaze Spikers on a team built around Brooke Kranda and Elizabeth Wendel, team captain Dindin Manabat, veteran Maika Ortiz and libero Katarina Vukamanovic.
“We can’t afford to relax,” said Petron coach Shaq Delos Reyes, recalling the unfortunate incident last year where they were one set away from winning the crown until the Cargo Movers made some adjustments and shattered their title hopes.
Meanwhile, Cocolife guns for its fourth win in six games against winless Generika-Ayala at 2 p.m. in the tournament bankrolled by Isuzu, UCPB Gen and Rebisco.
