Hotshots end Bolts' playoff hopes, gain bonus
MANILA, Philippines – Magnolia snared the other playoffs bonus after making mincemeat of Meralco, 94-65 in a rare PBA affair Saturday night at the Xavier University Gym in Cagayan de Oro City.
Paul Lee flashed his dominant self anew, leading the charge with 21 points and a second-quarter explosion that gave the Hotshots a sizeable lead.
Even without Gilas trooper Jio Jalalon, the remaining cast managed to pile the points for Magnolia. Ian Sangalang and rookie Robbie Herndon combined for 22 points.
All but one Hotshot scored in the rout.
Chris Newsome was also back in his scoring form, but his 13 points weren't enough to spark his team, as they scored their lowest output in the Philippine Cup.
The victory sends the now 8-3 Magnolia side-by-side the 8-3 San Miguel, which leads the all-Filipino ladder.
