Elorde grandson defends WBO crown against Thai
MANILA, Philippines — Juan Miguel “The Boss” Elorde, grandson of the late boxing great Gabriel “Flash” Elorde, will defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific Super bantamweight crown against tough Yodsingdaeng Jor Chajinda of Thailand tomorrow at the Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Center in Sucat, Parañaque.
The young Elorde will be making his fourth title defense of the crown he won in March 2015. He has a record of 24 wins (13 by KO) and one loss. Currently Elorde is rated No. 3 in the world and is hoping that a win tomorrow will rank him No. 1 and give him a chance to fight for the world championship now being held by Jessie Magdaleno of the US.
Yodsingdaeng, whose real name is Likit Chane, is currently the interim Pan Asia Boxing Association champion with a record of 16 wins, 10 by KO, and four losses. He has won all his 10 previous bouts.
An open weigh-in will be held today at 10 a.m. at the Elorde Sports. The public is invited to attend.
In the supporting mainer, Phl No. 10 Wilbert Berondo of Zamboanga battles Glenn Calacar of Valenzuela in a 10-rounder, while Arvin Yurong is pitted against Junjie Lauza. Also to see action is crowd drawer Arvin Magramo against Michael Mendoza in eight rounds.
