Sino nga ba talaga ang kalaban ni Pacquiao?

MANILA, Philippines — Bagama’t lumutang ang pangalan ni dating Mexican world light welterweight king Mike Alvarado ay wala pang opisyal na makakalaban si Filipino world eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao.

“Not until we sign, no. I’m not going to get held up by anybody by releasing a name,” wika ni Bob Arum ng Top Rank Promotions sa panayam ng Boxingtalk.com.

Huling nakita sa ibabaw ng boxing ring si Pacquiao noong Hulyo 2 kung saan natalo siya kay Jeff Horn via unanimous decision kasabay ng pagkakahubad ng kanyang suot na World Boxing Organization welterweight crown sa Brisbane, Australia.

Ilang beses nang napaulat ang posibleng bakbakan ng 39-anyos na si (59-7-2, 38 knockouts) at ng 37-anyos na si Alvarado (38-4-0, 26 KOs).

“We’re going to find out something in next couple of days, but it’s looking like Manny’s going to be fighting again and it’s most likely going to be at Madison Square Garden on April 14th,” wika ni Arum.

Kasalukuyang nasa isang four-fight winning streak si Alvarado.

Kamakailan ay nagparamdam ng interes si World Boxing Association welterweight title-holder Lucas Matthysse (39-4-0, 36 KOs) na labanan si Pacquiao bago matapos ang taon.

Nauna na ding tinangka ni Arum na itapat si ‘Pacman’ kay ‘pound-for-pound’ king Vasyl Lomachenko ngunit hindi pumayag ang ama at ma-nager ng Ukrainian star sa isang catchweight fight.

“Let’s see what happens after their next fights. The Lomachenko camp, where the father is the trainer and I have great respect for him, he knows more than I do and I follow their lead,” wika ni Arum.

“Egis (Klimas) is in the same position. Egis would have wanted that fight to happen earlier, but the father is the boss,” dagdag ng promoter sa manager ni Lomachenko.
