MANILA, Philippines – GlobalPort Batang Pier entered the PBA Philippine Cup’s winning column after a 78-70 victory over the Rain or Shine ElastoPainters, Friday night at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Stanley Pringle continued to flaunt his offensive prowess and was rewarded with the team’s breakthrough win. He finished the game with 29 markers, 15 of which all coming from the rainbow territory.

Kelly Nabong and Bradwyn Guinto chimed in 12 and 10 markers, respectively, to help in the effort that saw the Batang Pier lead by as many as 14 points.

"Players talaga wanted to play. Gusto talaga nilang manalo today. Its a team effort at the same time, breaks of the game,” Global Port head coach Pido Jarencio said.

"Lesson learned yung last two games namin. We hit our target na 80 points below,” he shared. "Pinagusapan namin ng mga players na we have to consider na dumepensa kami and tonight, we played good defense. Lahat tumulong, nagcontribute. At least ngayon, we finished stronger.”

"It feels good, but we definitely cant celebrate too much because we got another game coming up. We're still down 1-2, and we're trying to get to .500,” offered Pringle.

Gabe Norwood paced the Elasto Painters with 15 while Mark Borboran added 13 more to help erase the deficit. But Rain or Shine was simply flat from the field, converting only 29 percent of their shots.

And while the recent win means a lot to Pringle and his team, the streaky guard said there’s much more to improve.

"It was a good win. But we need to rebound, box out. We played OK defense today -- we kept them under a hundred points. But the rebounding was terrible. We'll try to bounce back with our rebounding,” he closed.

GlobalPort takes on Blackwater next in a Friday tussle at the Cuneta Astrodome also in Pasay.
