Perez keys Filipinas' 3rd place finish in Asian Weightlifting Championships

MANILA, Philippines -- With triple gold medalist Elien Rose Perez as spearhead, Team Philippines finished third overall in the women’s division of the 2017 Asian Senior Cup Weightlifting Championships recently in Yanggu, Korea.

Perez achieved a treble in the women’s 53-kg play, topping the snatch (71 kgs), clean and jerk (87kgs) and total lift (158kgs) over Nepal’s Sanju Chandhary, who lifted 61-77-138,

Perez’s feat was complemented by the podium finishes of Elreen Ann Ando in the 63 kg category and Ma. Dessa delos Santos in the 58-kg hostilities.

Ando grabbed a silver in snatch with 88 kgs behind Korea’s Lee Su Min’s 89kgs, and pocketed bronzes in jerk (110kgs) and total (198kgs). Uzbekistan’s Fayzullaeva Kumushkon took the mint in jerk (114 kgs) and total (201kgs).

Delos Santos, for her part, had third-place finishes with lifts of 81kgs (snatch), 96kgs (jerk) and 177kgs (total) behind Uzbekistan’s Nabieva Muattan, who swept the three golds with 91-106-197) and Korea’s Ham Eun Ji, silver medalist with 82-105-187.

Uzbekistan’s female lifters emerged as the overall champ in the Senior Cup, beating host Korea and the Philippines.

The Cup tournament doubled as Inter-club championships and in that competition, Perez was good for the three silvers behind Korea A’s Par Da Ae (75-96-171).

Delos Santos claimed Inter-club runner-up finishes to Muattan (91-106-197), a harvest matched by Ando in her division, which was dominated by Kumushkon (87-114-201).
