ASEAN Senior attracts big cast
MANILA, Philippines — More than 250 golfers from all over the region will vie for honors in the 34th ASEAN Senior Amateur Golf Championships that the Philippines will host from Oct. 18-20 at the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in Gen. Trias, Cavite.
The host Filipinos will banner the 254 competitors with a 59-man contingent that seeks to retain the centerpiece low gross team championship as well as wrest the overall title from holder Brunei.
Leading the charge for Phl in highlight stroke play event are the 2016 edition’s low gross winning group of Lino Magpantay, Eddie Bagtas (also the overall individual low gross titlist last time), Ryan Abdon, and Ed Mansanares, together with Rick Loyola, last year’s overall individual low net champion.
The Filipino delegation assembled by the Federation of Philippine Amateur Senior Golfers, Inc. will also compete in the Stableford Event’s five age group competitions (55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, and 75-over),
Out to challenge the Filipinos are Thailand, which will field the biggest delegation with 60, as well as Malaysia (48), Singapore (39), Brunei (33), and Indonesia (15).
Officials from the Confederation of ASEAN Senior Golfers’ Associations will also fly in for the annual event, which the Philippines will be hosting for the seventh time.
