BRISBANE, Australia – Former Olympian Michael Conlan of Ireland pounded Australian Jarret Owens with body shots to score a third round technical knockout in their featherweight fight Sunday at the Suncorp Stadium.
Conlan went for Owens’ body with powerful hooks, forcing the referee to stop the bout at the 1:56 mark of Round 3.

It was Conlan’s third fight since turning professional early this year. He has won his first two bouts also by knockout.
Conlan gained notoriety in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where after he lost a decision to Russia's Vladimir Nikitin, he flashed obscene gestures at the judges.
