MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines are back to square one after the first day of the FIBA 3x3 World Cup at Nantes, France Sunday (Monday in Manila).

Kobe Paras led the Philippines with 12 points in their 21-15 opening day victory against a much taller Romania squad.

Former Ateneo de Manila University standout Kiefer Ravena provided the clutch points in the final minute of the second half with a basket and a free throw for a comfortable four point cushion, enough to pull an upset to the seventh-seed Romania.

Paras, Ravena, Jeron Teng and JR Quinahan, however, weren’t able to replicate the feat in their second match against host team France.

France's suffocating defense was too much for the Filipinos as the latter were dealt with an 11-point beating, 22-11.

The Philippines, which is seeded 18th, will go up against second seed Slovenia and 15th seed El Salvador on Wednesday.

Only the top two teams of each pool will advance to the next round.
