Zambales to open camp to Phl athletes

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Olympic Committee has found a new home for national athletes willing to undergo a more dedicated training program as they head to major international competitions, including the 29th SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur in August.

Last Saturday, POC president Jose Cojuangco inked a memorandum of agreement with Zambales Governor Amor Doloso. The agreement formally opens the doors of the Zambales Sports Complex in Iba, Zambales to the national athletes.

Under the agreement, the national athletes will have full use of the complex, which has existing facilities for basketball, lawn tennis, track and field, football and swimming.

A six-story building that used to be the Balen Zambales Hotel will also be made available for athletes and coaches. It has 64 air-conditioned rooms that can house a total of 124 persons.

“The province of Zambales will host the national athletes by allowing exclusive use and administration of the Zambales Sports Complex by the Philippine Olympic Committee. It shall appoint the coordinator/administrator for this purpose,” the MOA said.

“In this camp our athletes will do things they’ve never done before. And the good thing here is that many of those who are going are excited to go there,” said Cojuangco.
