Kalibo bets dominate CL tennis leg

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Young players from Kalibo, Aklan ruled four of the nine age categories in the fourth leg of the Cebuana Lhuillier age-group tennis championship recently.

The Sacapano siblings led the way for the Aklanons with Averille topping the girls’ 16- and 18-and-under divisions and sister Abigail winning the 12-U title.

Averille beat 14-U champion Althea Martinez, 8-4, in the 16-U finals then routed Jaye Israel, 8-1, for the 18-U diadem. Abigail, on the other hand, blanked Iloilo bet Krisha Lasafin, 8-0, to claim the 12-U plum.

Aklan native Martinez also romped off with an 8-2 win over Iloilo’s Avril Suace for the 14-U crown in the tournament supported by Dunlop as the official ball.

“We are committed to our support for Philippine tennis despite recent developments in Philta and we will continue with this nationwide and year-round Cebuana Lhuillier age grouper, now on its 11th year already of producing young  tennis champions,” said Cebuana Lhuillier president/CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier.

In the boys’ side, Al Andrade took the 18-U title with an 8-2 romp over fellow Aklanon Gabriel Martinez, while Iloilo’s Marben Mosquera topped the 16-U side, edging JJ Gazo, 8-6, in a victory that made up for his loss in the 14-U finals to Roxas City’s Angelo Mejia, who clinched the title with an 8-5 win.
