Top karters resume rivalry at Clark this weekend

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The country’s top karters go their separate ways after putting up a united stand against foreign rivals in the Asian Karting Championship as they try to step up their respective title bids in the fifth leg of the Petron Blaze 100 ROK Karting Super Series this Sunday at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.

Top gun Gabe Tayao-Cabrera goes for a win as he tries to firm up his hold of the premier ROK Shifter Blaze 100 class lead in the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Petron, Petron Blaze 100 Euro 4, Petron XCS, Petron Ultron, Petron Xtra, Petron Sprint, Magnolia Pure Water and Yokohama the official tires.

Though he topped his class in the Asian karting tilt, Tayao-Cabrera remains wary of his chances as he faces a slew of more experienced rivals in Vrei-AR Suba of the Kart Plaza Racing Team and Michael Jordan.

Jacob Ang of Eagle Cement, meanwhile, tries to pull away in the KF Junior Blaze 100 class where he’s way ahead of the field with 378 points.

Larco Cortez of Formula-E Racing and Tai Zulberti of CityKart tote 262 and 216 points, respectively, while Sean Draeco McLelland is in fourth overall with 203 followed by John Dizon and Mikey Jordan with 190 and 187 points, respectively.

Jerry Choi hopes to reassert his supremacy in the ROK Expert division against Julius Milla while Ben Stone of CityKart eyes another win over Rainier Te and Rhett Holganza to preserve his solo lead in the ROK Novice class.
