Mayweather Sr. says son would pounce on Pacquiao cramps

Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines – The father and trainer of Floyd Mayweather Jr. welcomed reports of Manny Pacquiao suffering cramps in training.

Floyd Mayweather Sr. said his son Floyd Jr. will take advantage once Pacquiao manifests cramps during their showdown on May 2.

"To me, that would be Floyd put pressure on him, back him up, back him up on his legs," Mayweather Sr. recently told David Mayo of mlive.com. "It's going to be good because he ain't going to be able to jump all night like that.

Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach said they are doing everything they can to address his ward’s leg cramps, which had hampered the fighting congressman in his past bouts.

For the elder Mayweather, it’s a major chink in Pacquiao’s armor.

"He might be able to do it for two or three rounds, but if his legs are really hurting him – I mean, he can get his legs back well before the fight, but in a good, tough fight, the (pain) will probably come back. It'll probably come back to him," Floyd Sr. continued.

Both Mayweather and Pacquiao are on the thick of preparation for their clash at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, a fight that will shatter record books as the highest-earning boxing match ever.

While Mayweather Sr. brought out Pacquiao’s leg cramps as a possible turning point in the fight, his son just brushed off the issue.

"That's [cramps] not really my focus," the undefeated American said in the same report.

"My focus is to go out there and entertain, and win, and look good doing it,” he added.

Mayweather doesn’t see Pacquiao as someone who would easily succumb to cramps.

"I know he's no pushover and I'm not pushover. When you're at the pinnacle of the sport, everyone is gunning for you. He's a solid competitor. I don't try to focus on his weakness at all. My focus is to focus on what he does good, and he's a hell of a fighter," he ended. – Dino Maragay
