Stags charity run unfolds tomorrow

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Stags Charity Run fires off tomorrow at the Aseana City on Macapagal Blvd. with a big field taking part in the event serving as one of the highlights of the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Manila’s 73rd foundation celebrations.

Rector president Fr. Christopher Maspara, OAR, and overall organizing committee chair Fr. Joel Alve, OAR, and the religious committee of SSC will join the more than 4,000 runners who have signed up for the event starting at 6 a.m.

Events on tap are 3K, 5K and 10K.

“We want to live by example because we’re here not just to promote a healthy lifestyle but also sustain the implementation of our pastoral ministry and charity mission in the provinces,” said Alve.

The event will spice up SSC-R Manila’s founding anniversary bash set Jan. 12-20 on a theme “Greatness Awaits One Who Recollects.”

For details, call 7348931-39 loc. 216/204 or get information from www.sscrmnl.edu.ph.

Proceeds from the fun run will go to the charity missions of the Order of Augustinian Recollects.

“We intend to duplicate or surpass the more than 4,000 runners who joined our third edition in 2013,” said Alve.

This marks the fourth time that the premier institution championing quality Catholic Christian education is holding the event also staged to generate awareness on lending a helping hand to the less fortunate countrymen in far-flung areas.

In the inaugural staging, dubbed “Takbo Para sa Misyon,” the proceeds went to the Stags’ missionary works in Sierra Leone, Africa and in the Cascian Island in Palawan via media evangelization and educational apostolate.

The next year, which used a theme “Takbo Para sa Edu-Misyon,” the institution was able to further enhance its educational mission while staging different outreach programs.

Last year, dubbed “Takbo Para sa Bokasyon 2013,” the race generated funds they used to support vocations to the priestly and religious life for the OAR.
