PCCL Ormoc leg moved to Cebu

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Southern Islands Championship of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) has been moved to the Cebu City Coliseum on Nov. 18-20, according to PCCL executive director Joe Lipa.

The event was originally scheduled in Ormoc City.

“We are thankful for all the preparations made by Ormoc City sports officials headed by Atty. Ruben Capahi. However, at this time they have more serious situations to attend to,” said Lipa.

The PCCL games were part of the major sports activities lined up by the city before typhoon Yolanda struck, destroying the Sports Dome among other infrastructures in the area.

The Southern Islands Championship games will be covered by ABS-CBN Sports and will be aired over Studio 23 starting Nov. 20.

The Sweet 16 step-ladder games will feature the participation of the champion teams from North Mindanao, STI College; South Mindanao, Holy Trinity College; CESAFI champion, University of Visayas Green Lancers; and CESAFI runner-up and third placer, Southwestern U Cobras and University of San Carlos Warriors.

The winner of the knockout match between Iloilo champion, Iloilo Doctors College Medics and Dumaguete champion, Asian College of Science and Techmology (ACSAT) Lightnings, will represent Visayas islands in the games.

The last team standing in the knockout games will join UAAP champion De La Salle U, NCAA champion and the Luzon-Metro Manila bracket champion in the Final Four to be played in Manila.

PCCL also announced the following schedule of the airing over ABS-CBN channel Studio 23 of the regional championship games: Nov. 16 – Mindanao regional, Nov. 17 – North-Central Luzon, and Nov. 18 – South Luzon-Bicol.

Telecast is 2-6 p.m.
