Teng's prayer lifts Archers over rival Eagles
MANILA, Philippines -- Jeron Teng pointed to the sky in the final possession and his prayer was answered drilling an emphatic 8-footer with 1.9 second remaining to give DLSU a sweet victory against their greatest rival Ateneo Blue Eagles.
After struggling the whole game, Teng came through in the clutch as the Archers escaped with a 66-64 victory in the 76th season of the UAAP men's basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City Sunday.
"I prayed for that last possession. Blessed na din talaga ako at pumasok yun," said Teng, who finished with only eight points.
"The whole game I couldn't get my rhythm but coach trusted me with the final play," he added.
Almond Vosotros fired 19 points while Jason Perkins and LA Revilla chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectivley, for the Taft-based squad.
But the biggest basket came from the second-year forward answering an equally impressive layup conversion from Kiefer Ravena in the previous possession to tie the score af 64-all with 14.9 ticks left setting up the exciting finish.
La Salle improved its record to 7-4 to take the solo third place spot while Ateneo dropped to 6-5 in a tie with UST for fourth in the standings.
