Suzuki Phoenix team tries to stretch win streak

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Suzuki Phoenix YRS Luzon Road Racing Team tries to extend its winning ways in the third round of the Repsol National Road Race Championship today at the Blue Wave strip mall in Marikina.

The team, headed by racing legend Yoyong Buncio, is coming off another dominant show in the series’ second leg, sending three riders to the podium, led by multi-titled Enzo Rellosa, who took home the championship in the Super Stock 115 and placed third in the Sports Production 115 category, aboard a Suzuki Smash 115.

Rellosa and Michael Altamira will lead the charge for the Sports Production 115 as they attempt to ride the Suzuki Smash 115 to another victory, while Eljin Lobarbio and James Mendez will battle it out for the Super stock 115.

In the Automatic 160, Altamira and Rellosa will ride the Suzuki NEX 115.

“The team is doing a good job. We’re proud to be represented by skillful riders. Thanks to Ka Yoyong for building a cohesive unit of strong and determined motorcycle sportsmen. A true testament of the company they represent,” said Dessi Enrico Maala, sales manager for lubricants of Phoenix Petroleum.

Supported by Suzuki Philippines Inc., Phoenix Petroleum, Denso Iridium, Hydro Plus, Vee Rubber, RK Chains, Garant and Holex Tools, Spyder Optics and Helmets, Wheeltek and YRS the Total Performance Center, the team began the season with star rider Rellosa completing podium finishes in five of the six categories, including two championship runs in the Super Stock 125 and Novice Expert Open 115.

The 19-year-old Rellosa, who is from Iriga, is again expected to lead the assault of the Suzuki Phoenix YRS Luzon Road Racing Team, with the help of Altamira and new recruit Mendez, who finally found their rhythm in the second leg.

Altamira showed good racing form when he bagged third place in the Suzuki One Make Race Nex 115 Cup, while Mendez wowed the crowd with his riding expertise in the LC-135 category, where he took third place after starting from the rear.

The race is organized by Sonic Boom Motorsports and sanctioned by The National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA).

The winners from the different legs will battle it off in Manila for the Championship on Sept. 21.
