Kayak Explore tilt slated

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Recreational and competitive kayakers get a chance to test themselves when the two-day 2013 Anvaya Cove Kayak Explore marathon and eco-touring gets going June 1-2 at the Anvaya Cove Beach and Nature Club.

Open to both club members and guests, the third edition of the annual event, serving as the kickoff leg of this year’s Philippine Kayaking Series, features various competition races and sports clinics on the first day, highlighted by the 25k kayak marathon. Also on tap are the 6k beach run-kayak relay race, a 3km novice race for beginners, crazy 8’s kayak slaloms, kayaking and stand-up paddling clinics.

The second day features eco-touring activities like mangrove planting, coastal clean up and a Galunggong Fiesta. Trophies, cash, gift prizes and giveaways await participants.

“The club takes pride in hosting this nationwide kayaking series in support of environment-friendly sports and local advocacies. It would be a good time to enjoy the camaraderie of kayakers and other paddlers who will take on this challenge,” said Anvaya Cove GM George Cadhit.

Presented by Ayala Land, Inc. in cooperation with Harbor Point-Ayala Malls,  Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, Department of Tourism, Manila North Tollways Corporation,  Province of Zambales and International School of Sustainable Tourism, it is sponsored by  Harbor Point-Ayala Malls, Quiksilver, Lighthouse Marina Resort, Vibram 5 Fingers, Aquamundo, Mojo Sandals, Sun Cruises, 8A Performance, Roxy,  Power Up and Camp.

The PKS, which started in 1997, is the country’s longest running series that has brought kayakers around Taal Volcano Island, channel crossings of Verde Passage between Batangas and Mindoro, Corregidor Passage between Cavite and Bataan, between Cebu and Bohol, Hundred Islands, Subic Bay and Zambales.

Registration is ongoing at Chris Sports outlets nationwide, Anvaya Cove Beach and Nature Club, selected Harbor Point shops and online at www.kayakphilippines.com. Fee is P1,500 for June 1 and P1,000 for June 2. Pre-listup is a must until May 27.
