Cebuana Lhuillier guard chosen to train with LA Slam
MANILA, Philippines - Kevin Alas, the Letran Knights’ playmaker in the NCAA and a starter of the Cebuana Lhuillier Gems in the PBA-D League, is set to leave for the US to train with top ranked American Basketball Association (ABA Global) professional team Los Angeles Slam under full-sponsorship.
The Slam, one of the top 10 teams in the ABA, boasts of a roster of trainers that includes ex-NBA players, led by former LA Lakers Tony Farmer, Mike Penberthy, Sean Rooks together with former LA Clippers Lemond Murray and Keith Closs.
Due to the NBA lock-out, there will also be two current NBA players who will be playing side by side with Alas as he practices with the Slam team.
Alas thus became the first official player from the Philippines to be chosen by the ABA committee.
“It is an honor to train a future star in the PBA and to bring international talent to US pro-basketball,” said Don Sanchez, chief trainer of the LA Slam and head of the ABA Southern California Division.” The LA Slam team was also one of the three teams which played against the Smart-Gilas National Team last year in the ABA California games.
