Shakespeare Rap Musical na William ng PETA mapapanood na sa YT

Nagbabalik sa bansa ang rap musical na William ng The Philippine Educational Theater Association’s (PETA) na ayon sa pagkaka-describe ng BBC News ay “a modern twist on Shakespeare,” na nakuha rin ang interes ng mga estudyante at local theatergoers nang una itong mapanood sa PETA Theater Center noong 2011.

Ngayon pagkatapos ng isang dekada, nagbabalik sa atin ang William, this time, accessible on our screens with one click of a finger!

In commemoration of William Shakespeare’s 404th death anniversary last April 23, inilunsad ng PETA ang Shakespeare in the Time of COVID, isang online series celebrating the works ng batikang poet and playwright.

Nangolekta ng award ang William sa 2011 Philstage Gawad Buhay Awards - Outstanding Play, Outstanding Ensemble Performance in a Play, Outstanding Original Script, Outstanding Male Lead Performance in a Play (Ian Segarra), Outstanding Female Featured Performance in a Play (Meann Espinosa), and Outstanding Male Featured Performance in a Play (Jojo Atienza).

Kinunan ang nasabing play sa high school in Metro Manila, kung saan ang five young students ay pinilit mag-aral ng Shakespeare ng kanilang  terror class adviser.

In the process of studying, na-realize ng mga nasabing estudyante ang beauty of Shakespeare’s works and also re-discover themselves through the Bard’s characters. Naramdaman nila ang tema ng adolescence, parents’ unconditional love and friendship, pino-promote ng William ang respeto for one another, and advocates love for reading and appreciating literature.

Puwedeng ma-access ang free 72-hour livestream of William via PETA’s YouTube Channel (www.youtube.com/petatheateronline) umpisa noong April 26.
