Anti-gambling campaign nets 494 violators

Gilbert P. Bayoran - The Freeman

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — The seven months anti-illegal gambling drive of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) led to the arrest 494 violators, and the confiscation of P105,88 cash bets, from January to July this year.

Senior Inspector Aireen Cordua, NOCPPO spokesperson, yesterday said the campaign against illegal gambling has been further intensified in the province, in line with the PNP’s “Operational High Roller,” aimed at eradicating all forms of illegal gambling.

Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil, NOCPPO director, had directed all city and municipal police stations in the province to have at least 10 police-initiated operations with at least 10 suspects arrested in a day, or in one setting in areas where illegal gambling persists.

Failure to stop illegal gambling in his or her area of responsibility will mean administrative relief against the chief of police.
