Relief goods sent to flood victims in Bayawan City, Negros Or. towns
DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines — An estimated 5,000 residents of Bayawan City and the towns of Sta. Catalina and Basay in southern Negros Oriental have received relief goods from the Dumaguete City LGU, through its City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
CSWDO's officer-in-charge Carola Alquero led the team from the city government during the distribution of the relief aid last Friday and during the weekend, according to Syril Repe of the City Public Information Office.
City Councilors Franklin Esmeña and Dan Leon were also on hand to represent Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria.
Recipients of the humanitarian aid were families and individuals who were displaced during massive flooding last October when at least six people died.
On hand to receive the donations were Sta.Catalina Mayor Nathaniel Electona, Vice Mayor Ruben Melodia and Councilors Ryan Monte de Ramos, Dodong Abrasaldo, Ruben Tag-at, Joji Napigkit, Nilo Teves and Filemon Ibale.
Provincial Board Member Peve Ligan (3rd district, Negros Or.) was also around to witness the turnover of relief goods.
A total of 767 residents in Sta. Catalina town, 3,824 in Bayawan City and 822 in Basay received the relief packs, each consisting of three kilos of rice, noodles, soap, canned beef loaf and a pail.
Bayawan City Mayor Gerry Saraña and Basay Vice Mayor Catherine Serion were also on hand during the relief aid distribution and thanked Sagarbarria for the assistance. — (FREEMAN)
