MANILA, Philippines — Habang tumatagal ay nararamdaman ni Magnolia coach Chito Victolero ang dominasyon sa kanila ng nagdedepensang San Miguel sa 2018 PBA Philippine Cup Finals.
Sa 111-87 panalo ng Beermen sa Game Three noong Linggo ay humataw ang mga second stringers ng three-time All-Filipino Cup champions sa fourth quarter para talunin ang Hotshots sa ikalawang sunod na pagkakataon sa kanilang best-of-seven championship series.
“We need to find ways to match their energy and intensity,” wika ni Victolero. “Ang problema nagtrabaho rin ‘yung second group nila. Lalong bumigat.”
Ang tinutukoy ni Victolero ay si guard Brian Heruela na tumipa ng 11 points habang nagtumpok ng pinagsamang 22 markers sina Gabby Espinas, Matt Ganuelas Rosser, Von Pessumal, Louie Vigil at David Semerad.
“Big credit to our second group, they really stepped up and gave us a good rest,” sabi ni four-time PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo, kumolekta ng 21 points at 17 rebounds, samantalang tumapos si Marcio Lassiter na may 24 markers tampok ang 5-of-9 shooting sa three-point line.
Nauna nang kinuha ng Magnolia ang Game One, 105-103 bago naitabla ng San Miguel ang serye sa pamamagitan ng 92-77 panalo sa Game Two.
“The second unit, at the start of the fourth quarter, sila ang nagtrabaho. That’s why I opted to let them stay until the last few minutes,” sabi ni Beermen head coach Leo Austria. “I think, if they keep on stepping up every game, I’m confident na every game, puwede kami manalo.”
Sa kabila ng kanilang 1-2 pagkakaiwan sa serye ay kumpiyansa pa rin si Hotshots combo guard Paul Lee na makakatabla sila sa Game Four bukas sa Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“Oo naman. Mahirap kasi mabaon sa 3-1, kaya big game sa amin ‘yun (Game Four),” ani Lee, ipinahinga ni Victolero sa kaagahan ng fourth quarter matapos makorbo ang isang daliri.
