Paalam Sir Gus
MANILA, Philippines — Pumanaw na si Journal Group of Publications publisher at editor-in-chief Augusto “Gus” Villanueva sa edad na 83-anyos noong Huwebes ng umaga sa kanyang tahanan.
Naulila ni Villanueva, asawa ng namayapang si Arlyne Magsaysay Romero, ang kanyang mga anak na sina Dr. Armando “Mandy” Villanueva at Antonette “Baby” Villanueva-Rodriguez at mga apo.
Ang libing ay ihahayag sa mga susunod na araw.
Itinuturing na isa sa mga ‘ama’ ng local sportswriting community at haligi ng Philippine journalism, si ‘Sir Gus’ ay naging pangulo ng Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) at ginawaran ng PSA Lifetime Achievement Award noong 2018.
“He was a mentor to a generation of sportswriters and journalists. He was humble, approachable and an inspiration to us all,” ani PSA president Rey Lachica. “The PSA mourns the passing of our much-admired and respected colleague.”
“He (Villanueva) was an amiable man and friendly. He was full of ideas, especially in sports. He was one of our sources of inspiration and guidance when we became commissioner of the PSC in 2000,” sabi naman ni PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez.
