MANILA, Philippines – Tuluy-tuloy pa rin ang preparasyon ng mga Fi­lipino athletes para ma­kahirit ng tiket sa 2020 Olympic Games sa Tok­yo, Japan.

Ito ay sa kabila ng ban­ta ng novel coronavirus (COVID-19) sa iba’t ibang bansa.

Sinabi kahapon ni No­nong Araneta, ang Chef De Mission para sa 2020 Tokyo Olympics, na wala pang opisyal na pa­hayag ang Internatio­nal Olympic Committee (IOC) tungkol sa estado ng quadrennial event na na­katakda sa Hulyo 24 hanggang Agosto 9.

“Umaasa lang kami sa statement ng IOC. So far, wala pang official cancellation, walang official post­ponement,” wika ni Ara­neta. “So we’re pre­pa­ring as it goes. If it’s a go, then we’re prepared for it.”

Ilang Olympic qualifying na sa iba’t ibang bansa ang kinansela bu­nga ng banta ng kumakalat na CO­VID-19.

“Ang naka-cancel lang ay sa Korea and Chi­na. But the rest are pro­ceeding with their qua­lif­­iers. Kung nagche-change ng venue, just ad­vise us and we’ll prepare the budget,” ani Araneta.

Tanging sina boxer Eumir Felix Marcial, pole vaulter EJ Obiena at gym­nast Carlos Yulo ang nakatiyak ng tiket sa 2020 Olympics.
