Philippine swimmers, archers determinado

MANILA, Philippines — Kapwa determinado ang national archers at swimmers na makasikwat ng mga gintong medalya sa darating na 30th Southeast Asian Games na nakatakda sa Nobyembre 30 hanggang Disyembre 11.

Mga beterano at matitinik na baguhan ang ipaparada ng Philippine archery team para sa nasabing biennial event.

Sina Asian Games bronze medalist Paul Marton Dela Cruz, Youth Olympic Games gold medal winner Gabriel Moreno at Olympian Jennifer Chan ang inaasahang magdadala sa kampanya ng archery squad.

Hangad ng mga archers ni national coach Clint Sayo na tapusin ang kanilang four-year gold medal drought sa recurve at compound events.

“As much as possible, we want to achieve the best results,’’ wika ni Sayo, gold medalist noong 1997 SEA Games. “But for now, I can only assure you that we are capable of getting a medal. Whether it’s a gold, silver, or bronze, hindi ko muna sasabihin.”

Inaasahang babanderahan ni Dela Cruz ang men’s compound team kasama sina Johan Olano, Roberto Badiola at Arnold Rojas at si Moreno ang mangunguna sa four-man recurve squad katuwang sina Florante Matan, Jayson Feliciano at Carson Hastie.

Ang women’s  recurve  ay kinabibilangan naman nina Kareel Hongitan, Pia Bidaure, Phoebe Amostoso at Gabrielle Monica Bidaure, habang sina Chan, Andrea Robles, Rachelle Ann Dela Cruz at Abbigail Tinugduan ang lalaban sa women’s compound.

Ang gintong medalya din ang pakay ng national swimmers sa pangunguna nina Nicole Oliva, Luke Gebbie, Remedy Rule at James Deiparine.

Base sa kanilang inilangoy sa Fina world championships ay malaki ang tsansa nina Rule, Gebbie at Deiparine na manalo ng gold sa kanilang mga events.

Sinira ni Rule, isang all-American mula sa University of Texas sa US NCAA, ang limang Philippine records sa world championships sa Gwanju, South Korea noong nakaraang buwan.

Nakapasok ang 24-anyos na tanker sa Olympic Selection Time (OST) B-cut sa women’s 200m butterfly.

Bumasag din si Gebbie, ang ama ay taga-New Zealand, ng national record sa men’s 100m freestyle sa world championships sa bilis na 49.94 segundo para tabunan ang OST B standard na 50.3 segundo.

Umaasa naman si Deiparine na magiging gold medal ang kanyang silver sa 50m at 100m breaststroke noong 2017 SEAG sa Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Aasahan din ng bansa para sa gold medal sa aquatics competitions na gagawin sa bagong Fina-approved Clark City Aquatics Center sa Capas, Tarlac sina Olympians Jessie Khing Lacuna at Jasmine Alkhaldi at homegrown talents Jerald Jacinto, Rafael at Miguel Barreto.

Magpipilit ding makapagbigay ng medalya sina dating Palarong Pambansa standouts Xiandi Chua, Maurice Sacho Ilustre, Youth Olympian Roxanne Yu, Rosalee Santa Ana, Chloe Isleta at Thanya Dela Cruz.

Nakasama din sa national team sina Alberto Batungbacal, Jonathan Cook, Jarod Hatch, Jean-Pierre Khouzam at Jaden Olson matapos manguna sa kanilang mga events sa katatapos na Philippine Swimming National Open sa NCC.

Kakampanya din sa 2019 SEA Games sina Rian Tirol, Desirae Mangaong, Jazlynn Pak, Joy Rodgers, Miranda Renner at Australian siblings Georgia at Thomas Peregrina.
