Reklamo ng Pinas sa athletics schedule, balita sa Malaysia

MANILA, Philippines -  Bago pa man magsimula ang 29th Southeast Asian Games sa Kuala Lumpur ay gumawa na ng ingay ang Philippine delegation sa Malaysian capital.

Iniulat ng The Star, ang nangungunang English-language tabloid sa Ma-laysia, ang isang istorya na may headlined na, “Philippines cry foul over athle-tics programme schedule.”

Ito ay apela ni Philippine Athletics and Track and Field Association president Philip Juico  Philippines para sa track and field team at sa kanilang top runner na si Fil-American Eric Cray, sasabak sa men’s 100-m dash at sa 400-m hurdles.

Si Cray, lumahok sa 2016 Rio Olympics ay ang reigning SEA Games champion sa nasabing dalawang events at inaasahang maidedepensa ang kanyang mga korona sa Kuala Lumpur.

Ngunit naglabas ang Malaysian organizers ng iskedyul na magiging mahirap para kay Cray na wa-lisin ang dalawang events.

Tinukoy ni Juico noong Hunyo na ang preliminary heats sa 100-m race at 400-m hurdles sa Agosto 22 ay 30 minuto lamang ang pagitan sa bawat isa.

Nagsumite si Juico ng apela sa pamamagitan ni Philippine delegation chef-de-mission Cynthia Carrion at ng Philippine Olympic Committee.

“We strongly believe that this schedule is ini-mical to the optimum performance and safety of athletes who will see action in both events,” wika ni Juico. “We are therefore appealing to the organizers’ prudent judgment to consider amending the events schedule.

Ngunit hindi ito pinakinggan ng Malaysian organizers.
