Rizal Memorial isasara pagdating ng Santo Papa

MANILA, Philippines - Isasara ng Philippine Sports Commission ang Rizal Memorial Sports Complex mula Jan. 10-20 upang magamit ng Phi-lippine National Police ang mga facilities bilang detachment posts para sa pagbisita ng Santo Papa.

Ayon kay PSC executive director Guiller-mo Iroy, Jr., tinatayang 15,000 police personnel ang gagamit ng Rizal Memorial Coliseum, Ninoy Aquino Stadium at Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium bilang base para sa kanilang trabahong bigyan ng seguridad ang Pope.

“The Rizal will be closed to the public du-ring those nine days,” ani Iroy na nagsabi ring ang mga atletang nakatira at nagsasanay sa loob ng complex ay hindi maaapektuhan ng pagsasara.

“Those who are billeted at Rizal like (athletes from) weightlifting and badminton can train without disruption. They just have to make sure they have their IDs with them,” ani Iroy.

Ang mga karagdagang pulis mula sa Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, Calabarzon at Region III ay titira sa Rizal complex para tumulong sa pagbibigay seguridad sa Pope na titira sa Papal Nunciature sa Taft Avenue habang nandito siya.

“This is the PSC’s contribution to the  Papal visit,” sabi ni Iroy. “We will assist the PNP kung ano pa kailangan nila (in whatever capa-city we can).”
