PETA may big comeback, KDLex bibida!

Magkakaroon ng big comeback ang Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) sa live performances  ng all new original Filipino musical, Walang Aray.

Ayon sa playwright na si Rody Vera, ang Walang Aray was originally written in 2007 as a screenplay commissioned by Jun Reyes, isa award-winning filmmaker, veteran advertising director, and founder of creative content agency Indie.Go Media.

Si Jun Reyes is the great-grandson and creative heir of Severino Reyes, na sumulat ng famous 1898 zarzuela Walang Sugat, na ibinase ang Walang Aray.

Hindi agad natuloy ang nasabing proyekto.

Noong 2018 nang ipresent ni Rody Vera sa PETA ang Walang Aray kung saan nag-suggest noon ang Artistic Director nitong si Maribel Legarda na magkaroon ito ng original music kesa sa initial plan na gumamit ng OPM. 

After much adjustment and revisions to translate the musical from screen to stage, Walang Aray was first performed in a PETA Lab show in 2018 and 2019 under the direction of Ian Segarra with original music and musical direction by Vince Lim, generating an enthusiastic and positive response from audiences and critics alike.

Ngayon ay ibinagay diumano nila sa kasalukuyang panahon ang palabas upang mawala ang label ditong ‘outdated’ na hindi nawawala ang pinagmulan ng kuwento.

“The hypocrisy, the power trips, hidden desires, deceptions, and idiosyncrasies — they’re all still here. And I think that’s exactly what makes this ‘slight’ adjustment from the original zarzuela relatable to us today,” Rody Vera explains.

Bilang unang palabas sa PETA stage ngayong may pandemic pa rin, ang Walang Aray ay kumakatawan sa pag-asa na ang teatro ay maaari na ngayong pumasok sa isang bagong kabanata pagkatapos ng mga taon ng pandaigdigang trahedya at paghihirap.“The pandemic was a long, terrible nightmare and now, we’re back on track ready to fulfill what we all planned – and more!,” says Vera. “While we’re aware these things indeed happened and may happen again, we’re also here to remind people that theater, always... ALWAYS dies and is born anew.”

 Pinagbibidahan ito ng Star Magic’s hottest musical couple #KDLex, KD Estrada and Alexa Ilacad pero may ka-alterrnate sila.

Walang Aray will run at the PETA Theater Center from Feb 17-May 14, 2023.
